In 2026, mesotherapy is the most underrated treatment for diffuse hair loss — especially in women. Overshadowed by PRP and DHI transplantation, it can, when applied correctly, deliver a 60–75% improvement in hair growth. We give you an honest breakdown of what mesotherapy can do, what it can’t — and when it’s the right choice.
What Mesotherapy Really Is
Mesotherapy is a micro-injection technique in which an individually formulated cocktail of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and growth-promoting active ingredients is injected directly into the middle skin layer (mesoderm) of the scalp.
Per session:
- 30–60 minutes treatment time
- 80–150 micro-injections across the scalp area
- Needles 4–6 mm deep
- Local anaesthesia not strictly necessary (some patients prefer it)
Cocktail components (standard 2026):
- B vitamins (B5, B6, B12)
- Biotin + copper
- Amino acids (cysteine, methionine)
- Hyaluronic acid
- Optional: minoxidil component
- Optional: growth factors
What Mesotherapy Does Well
1. Diffuse hair loss in women — when there is no defined bald patch but rather an overall thinning of hair. PRP and DHI fall short here.
2. Prematurely weakening hair — in younger patients (25–40) for whom a hair transplant is not yet appropriate.
3. After periods of stress — burnout, postpartum and stress-related hair loss respond very well.
4. As a complement after hair transplantation — accelerates the growth phase and typically improves the growth rate of the transplanted area by 8–12%.
5. Prevention — when a genetic predisposition is known but hair loss is not yet visible. Mesotherapy can delay the onset by years.
What Mesotherapy CANNOT Do
1. Regrow bald areas — when the hair follicles are gone, even the best cocktail cannot work miracles. Transplantation is required here.
2. Deliver fast results — the first measurable improvements appear after 8–12 weeks; full effect takes 6 months.
3. Work permanently without maintenance — mesotherapy works in cycles. After the initial phase (8–10 sessions), 2–3 maintenance sessions per year are needed.
4. Stop genetically programmed baldness — in cases of male-pattern genetic baldness (Norwood 5+), mesotherapy is not sufficient.
